Lower Hutt’s In Motion redefines Pilates through community and connection

A fresh energy is moving through Lower Hutt’s wellness scene, and it’s coming from In Motion, the High Street Pilates studio co-owned by Emma Snarski and Meg Burgess.

Since opening its doors in September 2025, the boutique studio has quickly built a reputation as a welcoming, inclusive space where movement is celebrated and every body is supported. Offering both Reformer and Mat Pilates, In Motion is designed for everyone - from complete beginners and teenagers to expectant and postnatal mothers, athletes and retirees.

For Emma and Meg, opening the studio was about more than launching a fitness business. It was about creating the kind of space they felt was missing in the Hutt Valley.

“We really wanted to open a studio where we could offer both mat and reformer Pilates in a warm, supportive environment,” says Emma. “There was nothing quite like it out here.”

Both women discovered Pilates through personal journeys. Meg, who lives with type 1 diabetes, turned to Pilates to support her health and complement her running. For Emma, a mother of four, Pilates began as post-partum self-care before becoming a passion and career.

That shared belief in the transformative power of movement became the foundation for In Motion.

Developed more than 100 years ago by German trainer Joseph Pilates, the practice focuses on strength through controlled movement. While reformer Pilates has surged in popularity worldwide, Emma and Meg believe its real value goes beyond trends.

“At In Motion, it’s about building that mind-muscle connection,” says Meg. “Because our classes are smaller, we can personalise movements, adapt exercises, and make sure every person feels challenged at their own level without feeling overwhelmed.”

This tailored approach is central to the studio’s philosophy. No two bodies move the same, and every class is intentionally designed to meet people where they are.

Each certified instructor creates unique class plans, ensuring no two sessions are alike. Whether the focus is strength, mobility, recovery or balance, clients leave feeling stronger, more connected and accomplished.

More than just a workout space, In Motion has become a growing community hub centred on self-acceptance, confidence and wellbeing.
