Maidstone Park Slides

Award-winning Maidstone Max is where it’s at for the young and the young at heart. Hit the 1000m2 skate park, the 60m long twin flying fox, junior playground, tube slide, roctopus, swings, low climbing mound and picnic and barbecue area. Parents can relax and watch the kids play from one of the many seated areas or picnic tables.

Ride or walk this flat, family-friendly trail that follows alongside the Hutt River. It’s a great place to get some fresh air. From Upper Hutt to Petone its 29km but you can start anywhere along the route.

Golders Cottage Museum

Golders Cottage

Step back into life between 1870 and 1940 at one of Upper Hutt’s earliest pioneer homes. The grounds of Golders Cottage still have original shrubs and trees. A swing in a native Kowhai tree features in a family photograph taken in 1900.

Eating blueberries is a delicious pastime and picking them yourself is even better. There are two blueberries farms in the Akatarawa Valley. Bluebank combines a blueberry and Emu farm and The Blueberry Farm and Bakehouse has great river swimming and chocolate brownie alongside their blueberries.

Have animals eat out of your hand at this interactive nature park. Staglands is well shaded, caters to children and is buggy friendly. Pack a picnic or visit the café and have a day in the country.
