Catch the train
Trains to the Hutt Valley run regularly from Wellington Railway Station and there are several stations to choose from. Take care that you don’t catch the express train as they don't stop at all stations.
Here’s the train timetable for the Hutt Valley line, which runs from Wellington right up to Upper Hutt. You can buy tickets at Waterloo Station, Petone Station, Wellington Station or on the train. On the train you’ll need to pay cash. Cycling to and from the train station is no problem. Most train services can accommodate bikes.
On your bike

Feel like cycling to and from the train station? No problem! Bikes can be taken on most train services in the Hutt Valley. Check for any limitations to the services first.
Go by bus
A network of buses operates across Lower Hutt. You can get almost anywhere you need to go by bus, and if you buy a Metlink Explorer day pass you only need the one ticket to explore the valley for the whole day.
Drive by car
Parking in central Upper Hutt and Petone's main shopping area is free. Places in Lower Hutt CBD where you need to pay for parking are signposted - there are free and paid options.
