Avalon Park is a bustling hub with all sorts of awesome. Climb, swing, drum, play with water, ride summer trains or boats, tee off with mini golf, plus there's a mini-road bike park and electric BBQs for the ultimate family picnic.

Explore sound play, splash about in an artificial stream, build castles in the sandpit or feed the ducks after lunch.

This is a park where you can unload the gear from the boot and stay all day for a picnic, play, pedal and paddle. Take an extra bottle of sunscreen for the family because you'll need a few top-ups as the hours flash past!

There's loads of room to run around and heaps of adventurous play with The Helix and Red Spaceball climbing frames, the Super Mega Swing, climbing walls and the Amazon Tower slide, or race each other down the twin flying fox.

Avalon Parks large tree-lined fields make this a popular picnic spot. Bring sandwiches ready packed from home or fire up the free electric barbecues to grill some sausages.

Practice basic tricks at the nearby skatepark or bring the bike and join the kids from neighbourhoods close-by practicing their road rules at the mini-road cycle circuit.

Be sure to say hello to Colin the giant 12 metre long Tyrannosaurus Rex in the pond and on sunny summer days you can get up close on a pedal boat for hire.

What park would be complete without a mini-golf and miniature train? Not this one. The community minded good-sorts at the the Lower Hutt Lion's run the train and mini golf between 1pm to 4pm each Sunday and most days during the school holidays.

This playground has been built for the kids, but if you need to bring your dog please keep them on a leash and only where you see a yellow dog walking sign. We have plenty of other dog friendly places you can take the whole family in the Hutt.

And for the adults, there's also a craft brewery nearby as well as great coffee so you can pick up a latte for now and a craft beer for later.

Pick up a coffee from Avalon Espresso, plus some freshly made cabinet food for lunch or snacks before hitting Avalon Park and hours of play
