What's for dinner?

Jackson Street is second only to Auckland’s Ponsonby Road, serving up more eateries than any other street in New Zealand and you often don’t need to book

60 eateries within 800 metres suit all budgets - from an easy sandwich and Friday fish and chips to locally roasted coffee and treats while out with a special someone.

In Petone, you can take a trip around the globe reflecting the many cultures that call this suburb of settlers home. Jackson Street is a street-sized international smorgasbord with tasty bites from Korea, Italy, Vietnam, France, Thailand, Turkey, America, The Netherlands, South Africa, Mexico, China, India, Malaysia and Cambodia.

I love that there's so many places along the street that you often don't have to make up your mind until you get there.

NIKI BOTES

Once dominated by second-hand stores and oldschool pubs Jackson Street in Petone, Lower Hutt, is now a gourmand’s delight.

THE PRESS

Jackson Street has been the heart of Pito-one, or Petone, almost since New Zealand’s first European settlers disembarked in January 1840 at its nearby beach. Surrounded by the sea, valley hills, and bordered by Te Awa Kairangi/the Hutt River, these days Petone is only 15 minutes’ drive from Wellington.

Well-loved as a foodie hot spot it's also popular shopping strip for fashion lovers, speciality stores and a contemporary vibe deep-set in heritage. Explore more of the street.
