The Hutt Valley is in the middle of New Zealand, just up the road from Wellington CBD
Drive here
Driving from Wellington, take State Highway 2 north. Check the latest road conditions here.
When traveling from the north, take State Highway 1 south as far as Plimmerton then turn on to State Highway 58 and at Haywards turn right to Lower Hutt or left to Upper Hutt.
Travel by train
Trains run regularly through Hutt Valley between Wellington and Upper Hutt railway stations. At peak times, take care not to catch the express trains if you want to hop off along the way.

Come by bus
If you want a convenient and cheap way to travel to the Hutt Valley from around the North Island then InterCity to Wellington is the bus for you. Book online or visit our i-SITE Visitor Centre who can book it for you. From Wellington there are regular services to our suburbs, such as the 83 bus.
Travel by Ferry
Travel between the North Island and South Island by ferry on either the Interislander or the Bluebridge. Ferries run both ways a number of times a day and can carry cars.
The East by West Ferry operates on Wellington Harbour, travelling between the Wellington CBD and Eastbourne. As well as commuter travel it's a great way to see Wellington on a sunny day. This ferry also stops on Matiu/Somes Island.
