The breathtaking views and bush-clad valleys of Belmont Regional Park make it a favourite open space for walking, running, mountain biking and horse riding.
Located in the hill country between Porirua and the Hutt Valley, the park features the historic Korokoro Dam, World War II ammunition stores and the original main coach road from Wellington. Boulder Hill has sweeping views over Porirua Harbour, the Lower Hutt valley and the remnants of ancient boulder block fields.
The Puke Ariki trail starts at the Dry Creek entrance to Belmont Regional Park and ends on Cornish Street in Petone. It is a two-way trail, so you can also choose to travel in the opposite direction.
For the 1 hour Korokoro Dam loop, start at Oakleigh Street.
There are regular bus and train services to Porirua, Lower Hutt and the surrounding areas. Timetables are available from the Metlink website.
