Wild coast, river trails and tunnels

The Remutaka Cycle Trail runs 115km from historic Petone through Upper Hutt along the Hutt River Trail, over the Remutaka Rail Trail to Wairarapa, then along the wild coast to Wainuiomata.

Discover our neighbourhood and big backyard full of unexpected treasures on the way. Break your trip up into 1 or 3 days, or challenge yourself with a full day ride.

Train and ride

Only want to take on part of the Remutaka Cycle Trail? It's easy with train and ride options. Start by taking the Hutt Valley Line to Upper Hutt - it's free for your bike in non-peak times. Fuel up at Cake & Kitchen opposite the train station before riding the Remutaka Rail Trail. Ride up and back or over the hill to Featherston where you can catch a train back to the Hutt Valley.

Brewtown is a beer lovers dream with four great craft breweries within walking distance of the Upper Hutt train station. They're serving up award-winning local craft beer and food matches to fill any appetite. Try "The Unit" at Boneface, or the "Supercharger" at Panhead.
