Cool off in the Hutt

With long warm days, here's what you need to do to stay cool all summer long.

#swimmingpools

Wainuiomata, McKenzie Baths and Eastbourne Summer Pools are open from November for the summer.  Pack a picnic with locally made goodies and don't miss the 80m open air waterslide through native bush at Wainuiomata. Or take on the twists and turns of three hydro slides at H2O Xtream, open all year.

#frozentreats

Head to famous Zany Zeus for one of their delicious handcrafted organic ice-creams. While you're there, pick up your supply of cheese and milk. If you are looking for that caffeine hit, instead of an iced coffee, ask for an affogato - a scoop of vanilla gelato drowned with a shot of hot espresso. Yum!

Jumping off wharf

#wharfjumping

Join the locals jumping off the wharf in Days Bay and take a dip in the clear harbour water. This summer rite of passage is now seen all year round. To keep the beach day going, hire a kayak or cruise the bay on pedal power along the village waterfront or simply let the water lap at your feet.

#huttriver

Visit one of our glistening river swimming holes! Our personal favourites include Silverstream, Paradise Cove (Akatarawa River) and Taita Rock. All are perfect to cool you down on a scorching day!

Stay inside with the air conditioning at one of our many galleries. Check out the extraordinary exhibitions and galleries at Expressions Whirinaki Arts and Entertainment Centre or visit a local favourite, The Dowse Art Museum.

#shadedbushwalks

Dunk yourself under the cooling waterfall at Percy Scenic Reserve and soak up the shade and fresh forest air around many more waterfalls. On the way back to your car explore the Weta Cave for the colder ground temperatures. Explore one of the many lush bush walks, such as Tunnel Gully and Kaitoke Regional Park or in the hills behind the beaches of Days Bay and Eastbourne.
