Remutaka Forest Park, Coast Road

The 22,000ha Remutaka Forest Park encompasses much of the Remutaka Range. Easily accessible from Wellington, the area is popular with trampers, campers, school trips and hunters.

Catchpool Valley is the most popular entrance to Remutaka Forest Park it is located 12km south of Wainuiomata, on the Coast Road, 45 minutes drive from Wellington City.

Wildlife is abundant in the Forest Park. Native birdlife, including kiwis, bellbirds, tui, kaka, kereru and ruru can be found, as well as red deer, goats, pigs and possums.

Within the Valley there are attractive short walks, a well maintained campground, and pleasant picnic and barbeque facilities. There is also a field centre, toilets, and a 24-hour emergency telephone.

Beyond the Catchpool Valley is the Orongorongo Valley which offers tramping tracks for all ages and fitness levels along with bookable DOC huts.
