What's brewing

Anyone fancy a craft beer and a brisket sandwich? We thought so.

There’s been a craft beer explosion throughout New Zealand, and the Hutt Valley is no exception.
We’ve got a long history of manufacturing and innovation, so it’s no surprise we have several breweries of our own.

Brewtown is a beer-lovers dream with five great craft breweries and a boutique distillery within walking distance of the
Upper Hutt train station. They’re serving up award winning local craft beer and food matches to satisfy any appetite.

Take a piece of Brewtown home with you at the merchandise store – grab a limited edition t-shirt to remember your trip.
Located at South Pacific Industrial Park, Brewtown has reinvented the old Dunlop Tyres factory – look around and you’ll see signs of what it used to be. Take a picture with the old Dunlops sign that still sits proudly out front!

Your Hutt Valley beer tour wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Baylands in Petone for beer tastings with 12 of their locally brewed beers on tap.

Not into beer? Not a problem! We've got Native Sparkling who not only use a neutral alcohol base, they partner with initiatives like Trees That Count who protect and sustain our native species. Like Native say "go on, grab a drink and feel that good karma roll in"

For a brew of the non-alcoholic kind, the Hutt's still got your back. Coffee lovers will be pleased to hear that we have five coffee roasters scattered about and even the factory which makes your favourite coffee additives like caramel and vanilla for extra sweetness.

Find healthy, fizzy, fun even the kids will like ... If you can bring yourself to share! Kinderbear Kombucha is fermented in Alicetown where you can meet Wayne in their funky little tasting room with an awesome collection of records.

The best ginger beer around is by Hardieboys. Each batch is lovingly crafted and only contains raw ingredients, or if you're looking for a lime, lemonade or orange juice, they've got you covered. Both Hardieboys and Kinderbear Kombucha use a bottle recycling system so be sure to return your bottles when you get your refills.

You never know what’s going to be happening down at Brewtown. The crafty attitude of these brewers doesn’t stop with excellent beer – you may find yourself sitting next to a chilli eating contest, a live concert, or watching a gumbo cook off!
