2018 TriAbility Triathlon

Barrs Reserve, Lower Hutt, Wellington Region

SAT 17 MAR 9:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.

The TriAbility Triathlon is an inclusive multi-sport event that supports people of all abilities in a competitive environment.

There are two distances to choose from with the Super Sprint distance; 300m swim, 9km cycle and 3km run/walk/wheel and the Super Sonic distance primarily for children and absolute beginners, with a 20m swim, 400m cycle and 120m run/walk/wheel.

The TriAbility will be run by Sport Wainuiomata Inc (SWI), who is partnering with Hutt Valley Disabled Resources Trust (HVDRT). With the strong values of whānau/family friendly community events from SWI and inclusive and active communities of HVDRT, it is a perfect partnership in providing an awesome event.

In past years we have had participants and teams join us from Gisborne, Rotorua, Whakatane, Levin, Palmerston North and the greater Wellington region - so why not come along and see for yourself how much fun can be had.

The event follows the guidelines of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) so there are restrictions including no motorised assistance and no guide animals in the Sprint and Super Sprint categories (however, this can be negotiated with the course director).

In order to support different abilities, we provide things such as a sign language interpreter, large visual signs (words and pictorial), accessible facilities, quiet spaces, and co-participants.

Co-participants are supporters who enter as a team member. The idea behind co-participants is that disabled and non-disable people meet regularly to train and compete as a team. Please keep in mind that this is not just an event for disabled people, it is an event for all abilities, from seasoned athletes to first-timers and everything in between.
