Weekend warmers

Cooler days are a time for cosy food, warm drinks and good company - plus there's always new stuff popping up around us.

The Dowse Art Museum

The Dowse has cosy nooks to take a breather from a hectic schedule and enjoy fantastic art. Once you've topped up your "me" time the Mine shop has gorgeous locally-crafted jewellery and ceramics, books and designer products to brighten up your day.

Bellbird Eatery

Opening at The Dowse in June 2017, Bellbird Eatery is a modern upmarket eatery with an emphasis on fresh seasonal fare sourced from the Hutt region. Our tap beer will be brewed locally, our coffee roasted locally, our bread baked locally. It's all about keeping it in the family

Chocolate for the Soul

You deserve the best. And, that's exactly the type of chocolate you will find at The Chocolate Story in Petone and Zany Zeus in Moera. These treats have been road-tested by superstars from near and far and found to be unashamedly delicious.

Movie, Oli and Mi

Dinner and cinema here we go! Our neighbours at Oli and Mi Kitchen can serve up a relaxed dinner or quick pre-movie tapas before heading to the warm comfy Light House Cinema Petone to enjoy a glass of red while you escape.

Walk in Style

Walk in Style is a Petone guided fasion tour lead by stylist Frances Hamilton. You'll discover creations by local designers. Once you've brightened up your winter wardrobe you are invited to relax with platers at Oli & Mi.

Book at jacksonstreet.co.nz

Petone's fashion store password please... has fresh new season men's and women's clothing arriving all the time. Wander along Jackson Street for more great fashion boutiques and stop in a Lluma candles for locally made candles to be cosy at home.

Escape to the Castle

The Castle in Eastbourne was designed in the 1970's by well-known New Zealand architect Ian Athfield. It's a place many of us have driven past wondering what it's like inside. Wonder no more!

Step back in to decades past...

Petone Settlers Museum

This architectular gem is a treasure trove of local stories and history. This is the place to reflect on the history, while staying cosy and warm.

97,321 coffees and counting

Head along the beach and upstairs to Seashore Cabaret cafe where you'll end up staying for hours admiring the eclectic mix of decor, and historic photos of its previous incarnations on the foreshore. Good Fortune Coffee, roasted on site, became the first coffee roaster in New Zealand to receive a living wage accreditation. Look for the coffee counter for how many have been served since opening.

Snuggle up to cosy Stansborough Grey

Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fans will be at home in Stansborough – weavers of a very unique wool and Hollywood movie costume-makers. Step back in time and see the historic woollen mills.

More locally roasted goodness

Get your fix from our five local roasters by looking out for these names at an eatery near you: Bravo at Janus Bakkerij, Good Fortune Coffee Co, Karamu Coffee , Ripe Coffee and Revive Espresso.

Get fired up!

Staglands has a stunning log building with an open fire, outdoor seating, BBQ/Picnic area and a sumptuos menu.

Buzz around on indoor karts at Daytona Raceway in Seaview.

And, if winter means an extra dose of adventure... Blue or grey skies, Quad Bike Expeditions are spectacular. Head to the Turakirae Head seal colony or atop hills with stunning views to the South Island. You’ll be snug and dry inside the jackets and gloves provided.
