Pakuratahi Forest

Walk or cycle along a historic railway line through tunnels and a mix of forest land and make sure you grab a picnic under the rustling leaves of giant gum trees.

Pakuratahi Forest has a gentle slope that makes it a great stroll or easy bike ride. It’s 10kms to the top and not well shaded so pack a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water. Along the way you'll go through tunnels and see structures from the 1870s Remutaka Railway.

  • The park includes the only area of snow tussock in the Remutaka Ranges
  • The forest contains a mix of both native and exotic forest
  • Suitable for mountain biking and horse riding
