The Hutt River is a great place to fish for trout, with excellent access right through the Hutt Valley. There are also many smaller tributaries and rivers around the valley you can visit. This really is a fabulous place to fish.
You'll find brown trout in most rivers around the Hutt Valley year round, and if you're really lucky, rainbow trout. The trout season is open all year for the Hutt River, although the tributaries have a limited season, from 1 October to 30 April. If you're into whitebaiting, head out to the Hutt River between August and November.
Check out the Fish and Game site for more information on locations, licenses and seasonal limitations.
