Pack a picnic, the sunscreen and join us this weekend for great events and some of our local favourites.


Our region is brimming with wild food, served up at the Local Wild Food Challenge

The challenge has been set, get outside and hunt for local wild food and create a dish! If hunting and gathering isn't for you, head down for good food, local beer and live music. Williams Park, Days Bay from 11am.

While at the Local Wild Food Challenge, stay for Rhythm and Reels: Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Rhythm and Reels will follow directly after the Local Wild Food Challenge at Williams Park, Days Bay. Music by Howlers will be at 5pm and Hunt for the Wilderpeople will start at 6pm. 

Stand on the beach where Kupe stood more than 700 years ago

Watch the fleet of waka sail up to the shore and continue the celebration of waka voyaging at Kupe Landing. Petone Foreshore, Petone from 12:3-pm.

Slide into Scouting Tradition with a Mudslide

Head along for a good ol' fashioned mudslide and bring a gold coin or two for the sausage sizzle. Old Wainuiomata College, Wainuiomata from 10am.

Go camping for the weekend and enjoy the Just So Festival

This festival combines camping and arts dedicated to children and their families. Kaitoke Regional Park, Upper Hutt, all weekend.

Trentham comes alive with the Upper Hutt Summer Carnival

Come along for games, entertainment, displays, food, animals and much more. Trentham Memorial Park, Upper Hutt from 10am. 

Celebrate international contemporary jewellery with All That Glitters

All that glitters is not gold and precious things aren't always made from precious materials. Head down to the Dowse Art Museum and celebrate their first ever exhibition of international contemporary jewellery. The Dowse Art Museum from 11am.



Uncover the Secrets of Mona Lisa

Straight from Paris, see the only 360 exact replica ever made. Expressions Whirinaki Arts and Entertainment Centre, Upper Hutt from 9am.

Eat, drink and gram! Continue the foodie weekend by eating great looking and great tasting food

Find the prettiest meal, melt in  your mouth chocolate or fusion dining at its best. 

Try a summer themed drink at one of the cafes who have entered The Cool As: Summer Refresher Drink Challenge 

There 14 cafes which means 14 different drinks to try! Make a lunch date and vote for your favourite, this challenge is on until 4th March.
