Cool off in the Hutt

With long warm days, here's what you need to do to stay cool all summer long

Join the locals jumping off the wharf in Days Bay and take a dip in the clear harbour water. This summer rite of passage is now seen all year round. To keep the beach day going, hire a kayak or cruise the bay on pedal power along the village waterfront or simply let the water lap at your feet.

Wainuiomata, McKenzie Baths and Eastbourne Summer Pools are open from November for the summer. Pack a picnic with locally made goodies and don't miss the 80m open air waterslide through native bush at Wainuiomata.

Stay inside with the air conditioning at one of our many galleries. A local favourite is Can Take Anything proposing that practices of the 1980s are foundational for contemporary art today, on until 25 November 2018.

Head to famous Zany Zeus for one of their delicious handcrafted organic ice-creams. While you're there, pick up your cheese and milk for the week. If you are looking for that caffeine hit, instead of an iced coffee, ask for an affogato - a scoop of vanilla gelato drowned with a shot of hot espresso. Yum!

On your way home, stop by the supermarket and pick up a box of iceblocks to share. Take your time in the frozen goods section to enjoy the cold blast.

Follow short walks through one of the Regional Parks for shade and fresh forest air. Dunk your head under the waterfall at Percy Scenic Reserve and on the way back to your car explore the Weta Cave for the colder ground temperatures.
