Staglands Wildlife Reserve

Staglands Wildlife Reserve is nestled in the beautiful Akatarawa Valley, less than an hour from Wellington City. Staglands offers a special look at NZ's natural heritage, wildlife and beauty.

Entrance to Staglands
Staglands Wildlife Reserve

Under an hour from Wellington, in the Akatarawa Valley,  you can wander through the 10 hectares of carefully created walkways, enjoying the many different native and introduced birds, animals and trout, all in beautiful, natural surroundings.

Staglands is Wellington’s hidden treasure and offers a unique experience for people of all ages to feed and freely interact with unusual birds and animals in an environment that has been created with nature’s materials.

Located in the beautiful Akatarawa Valley, Staglands is a ‘must see’ attraction.  Take time out with friends and family with a picnic, and inspire the kids with nature.

Explore the abandoned bush settlement, watch the funny kune kune pigs, play with the guinea pigs and feed the deer.  The keas will amuse you for hours, but be careful, as these cheeky birds will take any opportunity to steal unguarded treasures.

Unwind in the café or bring a picnic and use one of the BBQ’s.

Open Daily from 10.00am
Adults $16 (over 16yrs)
Children $8 (3 and under no charge)
