Silver Stream Railway Museum

A large collection of steam locomotives run on part of the original 1875 Wellington-Wairarapa line around the foothills of Silverstream.

The Silver Stream Railway was incorporated in 1967 and has a strong membership comprised entirely of volunteers.

The Society's policy of preserving and restoring railway items has resulted in an extensive collection of operational equipment.

From time to time each of the locomotives may be seen in service, hauling a number of the once-familiar red wooden carriages.

This is the Wellington Provincial Centennial Memorial, which was built in 1940 to commemorate the arrival of the first New Zealand Company Settlers on 22nd January 1940.
