Tararua Mountain Race

The Tararua Mountain Race has been run every year since 1990.  This well established mountain running race attracts runners from all over the country and more recently from overseas.

Past the memorial cross on Mt Hector

35.4km of some of the most beautiful mountain country in the region.  The Tararua Mountain Race starts from Kaitoke in Upper Hutt and follows the popular tramping route across to Otaki Forks on the west coast in Kapiti.

The one thing that makes this event unique is having first time participants running as a team of two. This is a safety requirement, because this event is tough and challenging (especially the extreme weather conditions) but some fun can be had by sharing it with your running partner. The views can be fantastic, but only the very fit or insane contemplate running all of it.

The Hutt City i-SITE Visitor Centre has topographical maps for you to have a look at the route.

There is plenty of pre-event accommodation in Hutt Valley.
