The Dowse Art Museum

Put a creative spark in your next event.  At the heart of TheNewDowse, Wellington’s newest art institution, you’ll find an innovative multi-purpose events space.

Not your standard hotel or historic house, this is a unique purpose-built venue made up of exhibition and event spaces, including an enclosed outdoor courtyard. These spaces have been designed to reflect our strong commitment to creative work, creative play and creative solutions.

The Dowse Art Museum is perfectly suited to weddings, conferences, launches, receptions, seminars, workshops and promotions – anywhere you want to make a splash!

THE JAMES COE CENTRE AND COURTYARD

Two adjacent spaces with glass slider door access to an open central courtyard, with a small kitchen facility available for use. Available for hire during and outside public gallery hours.

JAMES COE ONE   100 standing capacity, 116m2

A large double-height, acoustically-sound space, with glass slider door access onto the central courtyard.  It is a fantastic venue for formal lectures, strategic planning sessions, symposia and presentations.

JAMES COE TWO   85 standing capacity, 73m2

This space can be fully enclosed and blacked-out as a stand-alone venue or can serve as a perfect breakout space to compliment James Coe One.

THE COURTYARD   85 standing capacity, 96m2

This is an outdoor area enclosed by large glass sliders.  The space is double-height and very sheltered, but not covered from wet weather.  It is a visual treat as it allows the guests to be part of the gallery experience, looking directly into the galleries.

THE FOYER    100 standing capacity, 106m2

The reception area is a large space suitable for cocktail functions, business presentations or seated dinners. Available outside gallery hours only.

THE MEETING ROOM   20 standing capacity, 25m2

This multi-purpose meeting space is located upstairs alongside the Blumhardt Gallery, and is perfect for more intimate meetings or a small boardroom gathering. Available for hire at any time.

Butterfly Creek

This is a must do walk as it's not too long and only mildly challenging.  Great views across the harbour before you drop over the back of the coastal hills into the hidden valleys behind.
