Lower Hutt is within easy reach of Wellington airport (travel time from the airport to Lower Hutt is approximately 30 minutes by car). Air New Zealand operates regular daily flights in and out of Wellington. The Airport Flyer bus runs to and from Wellington Airport (via Wellington City) to lower Hutt.
Being in close proximity to Wellington's ferry terminal, travellers from the South Island can travel from Picton to Wellington with Bluebridge or Interislander, where there awaits a range of transportation options (shuttles to Wellington train station, rental cars, taxis) to get to Lower Hutt.

The Airport Flyer is an express bus service that runs every 15 minutes from Upper Hutt, through Westfield Queensgate in Lower Hutt to the centre of Wellington and then to Wellington International Airport and back.
The Airport Flyer buses were purpose built for the route with leather style coach style seats with extra leg room and air conditioning for comfort. Easier access to and larger luggage storage makes travelling to and from the airport with luggage easier. Wide doors and low floors provide better wheel chair and push chair access and CCTV provides for increased passenger security.
There is also FREE Wi-Fi (wireless internet access) onboard.
In bus TV screens display route information, weather and news updates along with flight arrival and departure information from Wellington airport. Automatic announcements advise passengers of the next stop.
Cityline runs a regular bus service connecting Lower Hutt with the rest of the Hutt Valley and Wellington.
