Upper Hutt

This is a city of more than 36,000 just 25 minutes drive or a 40 minute scenic train ride north from Wellington. Upper Hutt is nestled by the Hutt River, it is set amongst bushclad hills with easy access to recreational pursuits ranging from quiet native forest and riverside walks, fishing to hunting, tramping and mountainbiking.

The Hutt Valley is located approximately 20kms north of Wellington and is easily accessible by a range of transportation options.  Arrive by air, sea or road "getting here"  to the Hutt Valley - home to attractions that you simply must see during your visit!  From great coffee to awesome outdoor activities, art museums, and galleries with a sprinkling of arts and culture - the Hutt Valley has it all.

Getting Around

The Hutt Valley has excellent public transport including trains, buses and taxis making it easy to get around.

 

From the Stagecoach Flyer connecting Upper Hutt to the centre of Wellington then onto the Airport. You can also catch the Dominion Post Ferry which makes regular trips from Queens Wharf in Wellington via Somes/Matiu Island onto the seaside suburbs of Petone and Days Bay, Easbourne.
